FULL DESCRIPTION

Since bursting onto the local theater scene in 2016, Pipeline-Collective has earned a sterling reputation for its innovative programming and unwavering commitment to excellence. But its latest project may well be its most ambitious to date. On Saturday, Pipeline-Collective will premiere an unusual theatrical event titled Outside of Here, broadcast in partnership with NECAT. Written by local playwright Claudia Barnett, the piece centers on a woman who receives an unexpected guest who tries to entice her with “poignant and joyful visions of the world outside.” But as one guest leaves, another arrives — the scene plays out again and again over 12 real-time hours, with dozens of different actors. Producing artistic director Karen Sternberg stars in the pivotal role of “Her,” and the supporting cast list reads like a who’s-who of Nashville talent — with names such as Rona Carter, Galen Fott, Denice Hicks, Nat McIntyre, Tamiko Robinson Steele, Garris Wimmer and more. Exploring themes of isolation and wonder, Outside of Here poses the question: “What does it mean to return to the world when every day has been the same as the one before?” Outside of Here will broadcast live on NECAT’s public access channel (Comcast channel 9, ATT U-verse channel 100). Viewers can also access the livestream via Pipeline-Collective’s Facebook page. Watching the performance is free, although donations will be shared among participating artists.
