No Limit Reunion Tour Feat. Master P, Silkk the Shocker, Mia X & More
Municipal Auditorium

In 2021, newer hip-hop fans might know No Limit Records mostly from singles like label founder Master P’s “Make ’Em Say Uhh!” popping up on ’90s throwback playlists — or else for the label’s flamboyant album covers designed by Houston studio Pen & Pixel. But the New Orleans indie was a powerful force in its time, with its artists’ gravitational pull affecting the trajectory of rap. Along with fellow Crescent City label Cash Money and collectives like Atlanta’s Dungeon Family, No Limit is part of why the South is world-renowned as a center for hip-hop. When Snoop Dogg split with Death Row Records, which had released his breakout Doggystyle, he brought his cachet to No Limit in 1998, helping the label grow its influence even bigger. But Master P and the existing crew had tilled the soil already with outstanding records marked by ferocious bars, agile beats and storytelling that resonated on the streets — like Mia X’s Unlady Like, Silkk the Shocker’s Charge It 2 da Game and P’s own Ghetto D and Ice Cream Man. The original No Limit went dormant circa 2003, though a newer incarnation called No Limit Forever launched in 2010. Friday, a road show with some of those early No Limit soldiers stops in at Municipal Auditorium, with a lineup featuring Mystikal, Silkk the Shocker, Mia X, Fiend, Mercedes, Mr. Serv-On and Master P himself. 8 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium, 417 Fourth Ave. N. STEPHEN TRAGESER
